Handcrafted from ash, this darker interpretation of the Ayako combines a beautifully textured, charred black exterior with the natural warmth of pale ash inside its circular form.

The timber is carefully charred, smoothed and finished to highlight the grain beneath, creating a soft satin sheen. Subtle brass details complement the contrasting surfaces, while the sculptural design holds a slender Japanese incense stick at an elegant angle.

Inspired by Japanese simplicity, the Ayako is designed to bring a quiet moment of calm to everyday surroundings.

Each holder is individually made by hand at Saltwood Workshop, celebrating the natural character of the timber.

The Ayako is designed to hold fine Japanese incense sticks, approximately 2mm to 2.5mm in diameter, rather than the thicker bamboo-cored incense sticks.

Each Ayako is supplied with a pack of traditional incense from Shoyeido of Kyoto, so it can be enjoyed straight away. Fragrance may vary according to availability.
